The largest vehicles on the road, Class 1 (C+E) drivers drive vehicles weighing from 7.5 – 44 tonnes with detachable trailers.
Class 1 drivers earn upwards of £40k per year for a 40–45-hour week, with specialist positions extending up to £55k per annum.
To get the C+E licence, you must already have a Car licence (Category B) so you will need prior driving experience before you apply for this one.
Drivers of Class 2 vehicles can legally drive vehicles over 7.5 tonnes with a rigid base if they do not exceed 32 tonnes.
Category C lorry drivers can earn up to £40k per year for a 40-45 hour driving week and can also drive fire engines and refuse lorries.
Most industries now heavily rely on Class 2 delivery drivers in towns and cities, so this can be an excellent option for new drivers.
The C1 licence is for smaller, rigid vehicles weighing between 3.5-7.5 tonnes and may be included on your current driver’s licence.
Final Mile lorries or C1 lorries are used for the final leg of delivery journeys and suit built-up areas that larger lorries cannot access.
Drivers delivering on this licence can earn around £30k p/A for a 40–45-hour week and can also consider driving ambulances or horse boxes.
