How long will it take to retrain as an HGV driver?

How long it takes you to become qualified to drive an HGV or LGV will depend on a few factors, including:

    1.       Your HGV driving experience
    2.       What HGV training you have already completed

For those who only need to complete their practical driver training and tests, you should be ready to get out on the road in just over a week, while trainees starting with no experience or prior training should expect to take 4-5 weeks if they seriously work at it.

No matter where you are starting from, the patient and experienced driving staff here at HGVTN do everything we can to support trainee drivers and get them clocking up their miles as soon as possible.

To book your HGV training, call or email us today at contact@hgvtrainingnetwork.com. Our friendly advisors can answer any remaining questions you may have and get your training journey started.

How much does HGV training in Plymouth cost?

Unlike a university degree or college course, HGV training costs differ for every learner. This means we need to create a bespoke training plan for everyone who enquires, based on three factors:

    1.       Some general information about you – your name, contact details, DOB, etc.
    2.       Your previous driving qualifications
    3.       Your HGV experience level

Once we know this, we can issue a specific quote for each prospective HGV driver, designed with you in mind.

Each quote outlines exactly how much your training will cost, and we can then discuss finance and payment options with you.

To get your own bespoke, no-obligation quote for HGV driver training, just get in touch today!

What types of training will I need to complete to drive an HGV?

If you are a newbie to HGV driver training, you will need to complete all three types of HGV training to get out on the road. These include:

    •         Theory training – studying for this will be simple with our included DVSA theory test support software.
    •         Practical training – this takes place over 5 consecutive days (Monday – Friday) and will involve our expert HGV driving instructors.
    •         CPC training – your CPC training and exams will be woven through your theory and practical study periods and is a legal requirement for professional drivers.

If you are finishing your training, however, your personal support coordinator can line up the training and tests you need as part of your bespoke training package – getting you on the road and earning faster.

To get the HGV training wheels turning, reach out to our expert training coordinators today – you can email us at contact@hgvtrainingnetwork.com or fill in our enquiry form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Can I complete HGV training in Plymouth if I don’t live there?

While you can complete your HGV training wherever is best for you, we would recommend you check your diary before booking at a location further from home, to make sure you definitely have the time to commute to alternate locations.

HGVTN has 50 locations scattered across the UK, so there will be a local centre handily located for anyone looking to complete HGV or LGV training.

Most choose to attend the closest training site to their home, but as long as you can reliably commute for the duration of your training, you can attend any training location that suits your lifestyle best.

Browse our full list of HGV training locations and see which is best located for you – all you need to do then is register for your preferred location and we’ll sort the rest for you!

Do delayed driving tests mean delays for trainee HGV drivers?

    Absolutely not!

Car drivers looking for tests are experiencing unprecedented demand at test centres at the moment, but this won’t impact trainee LGV and HGV drivers in the slightest.

    We know this because:

    1.     Thanks to the current and upcoming shortage of HGV drivers, the UK government are putting in place reactive measures to speed up HGV driver training.
    2.       The practical test elements are entirely separate and completed at different DVLA test centres.

This is great news for prospective HGV drivers, as it means you will escape the delays and can get trucking sooner rather than later.

To get started, reach out to us today. You can fill in an enquiry form and we’ll get back to you or you can give us a call and speak to us directly.
