Why become an HGV driver in Wellingborough?

Wellingborough sits at the heart of the Northamptonshire logistics corridor. Distribution centres, food and drink manufacturers and general hauliers are clustered around Park Farm Industrial Estate and the town’s other business parks, with quick access to the A45, A14 and M1.

That means steady demand for every HGV class, from local Class 2 delivery routes to Class 1 trunking work across the UK. The Road Haulage Association and government figures point to a continuing driver shortage, so newly qualified drivers are in a strong position to find work close to home.

No matter where you are in your HGV training, your go-to contact is there to support you. Our many 5-star reviews celebrate the support our team provides.

Which HGV class is right for you?

The licence you need depends on the vehicles you want to drive:

  • Cat C1 (7.5 tonne): rigid vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes, ideal for final-mile deliveries, ambulances and horseboxes.
  • Class 2 (Category C): rigid large goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and up to 32 tonnes, used for most town and city deliveries.
  • Class 1 (Category C+E): articulated vehicles and drawbar combinations up to 44 tonnes, the highest-paid HGV class.

Many learners start with Class 2 before progressing to Class 1, but you can now go straight to C+E. You can also add specialist courses such as ADR, for transporting hazardous materials, or HIAB to increase your earning potential.
