Everyone takes to HGV training courses differently, with the same being true no matter what type of vehicle you’re driving. Having said that, many people have pre-conceived notions that HGV driving is much more difficult than driving a standard car, due to the sheer size of the vehicle. This isn’t necessarily true! If you’re already a good driver, chances are you’ll have plenty of transferable skills you can use behind the wheel of an HGV, such as good reaction times and great spatial awareness. However, you must always be mindful of the rules in place to prevent driving while tired. Legally, you need to take a 45-minute break after every 4.5 hours of driving, and you’re not allowed to drive more than 9 hours per day.
