This means no matter where you live, we have a site near you.

Explore our full list of our locations or contact us if you’d like more information on a specific location.
What else can I do once I complete HGV training in Merseyside?
Thanks to multiple further training options, driving an HGV can be just the first step in your driving journey.
If you decide you’d like a change, you can retrain and drive:
- Horseboxes
- Refuse or recycling lorries
- Ambulances and fire engines
- HIABs – lorry-mounted crane or lorry loader
- PCVs – Passenger Carrying Vehicles, such as coaches or buses
- ADR lorries – that carry dangerous goods
To do these things, however, you first need to gain a car and then an HGV licence.
To see where HGV driving could take you, email us at contact@hgvtrainingnetwork.com or fill in our enquiry form and we’ll be in touch to see how we can help.
What do I need to start HGV training?
Whether you have always fancied driving the largest vehicles on UK roads or it is a new ambition, getting started with HGV training is remarkably simple.
All you will need is:
- A full car driving licence
- To be 18 years old
If you have these essentials, the team at HGVTN can then help you apply for the provisional category C (lorry) entitlement on your licence and undertake your medical, theory, and practical tests, while also gaining your CPC qualification.
But don’t worry about these things for now, as long as you are 18 and hold a full category B car licence, our team can guide and support you through the rest.
Just email contact@hgvtrainingnetwork.com or fill in our enquiry form and our team will get back to you to assist.
Is driving an HGV a job for life?
If you are committing to training for a new career, it is sensible to consider whether the return on investment will be worth it.
Fortunately, within the distribution industry, we see a very low attrition rate, with many long-term HGV drivers choosing to explore lateral career paths in other driving roles that would not be possible without their previous years driving HGVs.
As such, HGV training – in Merseyside or any other region – is well worth the time you’ll put in.
For a personalised, no-obligation quote for HGV driver training that includes both prices and a rough idea of what steps you need to take, contact the team today.
How long is HGV training?
HGV training is a bespoke service, meaning that prices and timescales can differ widely student-by-student.
This means if you are considering HGV training to access a new career within distribution and logistics, it may take you more or less time depending on where you are up to in your HGV training process.
If you just need to take your final practical training and tests, it could take 5 days. However, if you are right at the beginning of your journey, it could take a month or just over.
The only way to find out for sure is to enquire today – once you have spoken to our experienced team, we should be able to give you a rough idea of how long it will take altogether.
Are HGVs dangerous to drive?
Non-drivers of HGVs often see the sheer size of an articulated lorry and worry that their new career will be inherently dangerous.
While there is more potential for risk, driving them should be no more dangerous than handling a car – should you learn from trusted, experienced instructors and carry this forward throughout your career on the road.
Instead of being intimidated, find out more about how to keep safe on the road by booking HGV training in Merseyside with HGVTN.
